Obiano presents certificate of recognition to Igwe-elect of Omor

GOVERNOR Willie Obiano of Anambra State has presented a certificate of recognition to Igwe Chidume Oranu, Igwe-elect of Omor, in Ayamelum Local Government Area, LGA, of the state.

The event which took place at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia attracted many Omor indigenes, including some prominent people from the community.

Presenting the certificate, Obiano said the election was in line with the stipulated Laws in Igboland, as his election was unanimously accepted.

According to the governor the presentation is in accordance with the Traditional Rulers Act of 1981, which has certified that the Oranu has met all conditions stipulated in the Act.

This is in accordance with the customary Laws of the community, particularly section 4, 5, 6 of the Traditional Laws of 1981.

The governor, then, urged him to maintain peace among the people of the community, saying, “the throne is a divine intervention to ameliorate the sufferings of the indigent people in the community.’’

In his remarks, Greg Obi, the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, said the present government had vowed to restore peace in every community and resolve all outstanding issues affecting the royalty in the community.

Obi pointed out that the election of the new traditional ruler was in line with the stipulated laws in the state.

According to him the Igwe has passed through security screening and ensured landslide victory, an indication of peace and justice in the community.

“There was a big tussle for the throne in the community, but the governor ensured peace by instituting a panel of inquiry, made up of high personalities and traditional rulers to the resolve the matter.

“The panel worked for four weeks and called for open attestation to the integrity of the contenders.

“At the end, they made recommendations to the governor that Igwe Oranu is the choice of the people.’’

The commissioner, then, called on the traditional ruler to ensure peace and unity among the aggrieved parties to assure of development.

Igwe Peter Anukwu, the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu, who commended Obiano for his transformation agenda, urged Igwe-elect to always uphold the tradition of Igboland and enthrone meaningful development to the community.

Anukwu enjoined him to respect constituted authority, especially the present administration of Governor Obiano.

In his reaction, Oranu, who was elated, commended the governor for his administrative blueprint and humane approach to issues.

Oranu, then, stressed that his leadership would be an awesome opportunity to attract more tangible developments, in addition to government presence they had been enjoying.

He enjoined every member of his community to join hands with him in projecting the new face of the state.

Uche Okafor, the member representing Ayamelum in the Anambra State House of Assembly, expressed his gratitude, saying that the emergence of the traditional ruler would attract meaningful development to the town.

He noted that had been relegated because of non existence of traditional stool in past years.
