EMMANUEL Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of State for Petroleum Resources, refused to disclose the outcome of his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari to State House correspondents on Friday, October 6.

The closed-door meeting, which was held inside the president’s office at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, lasted for more than one hour.

Kachikwu arrived at President Buhari’s office at about 11:40am and left at 12:50pm.

The meeting was in connection with the minister’s allegations of insubordination and humiliation against Maikanti Baru, the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

Kachikwu went into the meeting alone, but after the meeting, he was accompanied out by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on Media and Publicity.

When approached by the journalists for what transpired at the meeting, the minister exclaimed: “No comment!”

Kachikwu had alleged that the NNPC boss had repeatedly sidelined and disrespected the board of the national oil firm, which is chaired by the minister of state.

In a leaked letter, the minister had informed Buhari that against the rules, some over $25bn contracts were never reviewed or discussed with him or the board of NNPC.
