BREAKING NEWS, Oil & Gas

–

TOTAL Upstream Companies in Nigeria celebrated the sail-away of two wellhead platforms built at Nigerdock for the Ofon Phase II development project. This joint venture project with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, represents the achievement of a major milestone in the growth of local content in Nigeria. It was initiated to stop routine gas flaring and monetize associated gas from Ofon field, increase Ofon oil production from 25,000 to 65,000 barrels per day, by drilling 24 new wells and implementing gas lift activation; develop additional reserves through water injection to maintain reservoir pressure and ensure an increased oil recovery and improve operating conditions on site with the installation of a new living quarter platform and various facilities upgrades.

The flare-out objective was successfully achieved in December 2014 and as a result, Ofon Phase 2 was awarded the World Bank’s 2015 Global Gas-Flaring Reduction Excellence Award. The first development wells of Ofon Phase 2 were also successfully drilled last year and the project achieved first oil in September 2015.

The delivery of the new well-head platforms will pave the way for the drilling of additional wells and ramp-up of production to a plateau of 65,000 barrels of oil and three million cubic meters of gas per day. This delivery is therefore a key milestone in the Ofon 2 project execution.

Ofon Phase 2 has opened a new chapter in the development of Nigerian content. Ofon Phase 2 is the first project ever with so many facilities manufactured in Nigeria. Five of the seven main Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts were awarded to Nigerian companies. A pioneering achievement has been the Ofon Living Quarters platform, built in country and providing today a safe and comfortable accommodation for staff working on the site. This achievement is a first in Nigeria.

Likewise, Ofon 2 wellhead platforms were entirely built in Nigeria, under an EPC contract awarded in September 2011 to Nigerdock. The jackets of these 2 platforms were already delivered and installed offshore in 2014.

These construction works generated employment for more than 3,000 Nigerians over a period of four years, and supported the development of many local subcontractors.

At Total, safety is a core value, not just a priority. For the construction of the Ofon 2 wellhead platforms, over three million man-hours of work were completed with zero Lost Time Injury. This performance is not the result of chance; it is the result of a continuous commitment of all, day after day, to the safety of activities. It is a result that both Total and Nigerdock can be proud of.
