“We are doing everything possible to follow taekwondo trends in area of officiating rules, and most importantly, application of the rules.

“Application of the rules is the heartbeat of a standard competition, hence, it is compulsory for referees to take part in the training.

“The refresher programme will be based on latest officiating rules, and only those who comply will be endorsed to officiate in our tournaments.

“The whole idea is to make sure that our national referees are current on the dynamics of taekwondo rules and their application,’’ he said.

Oluigbo said that the training was part of efforts by COTACH organisers to have a hitch-free competition.

He said that referees to participate in the training would have their first officiating assignment at the Nigeria Police Taekwondo Association-organised IGP Championships to hold at the stadium from July 26 to July 28.

The tournament director said that referees were expected to be abreast of current rules governing the game.

Oluigbo, also the President of Nigeria Taekwondo Referees Association, called on the participants to be disciplined.

According to him, the COTACH competition is for the taekwondo event of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education games.

Oluigbo said that the tournament was aimed at talents discovery form tertiary institutions.
