THE Osun State House of Assembly is set to look into the petition by Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede of the state high court, seeking the impeachment of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The 26-member Assembly gave the indication while acknowledging receipt of the governor‘s response to Oloyede’s petition.

Najeem Salam, speaker of the House, in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 15, disclosed that the detailed response of the governor was obtained on Tuesday, July 14. The speaker’s statement said in part: “The Assembly would be fair and thorough in its investigation of all the issues raised by Justice Oloyede. This is to get to a logical end and to give all parties a sense of justice without fear or favour.

“The Assembly is inviting Justice Oloyede to prepare for personal appearance before the investigative committee that would soon fix a date for looking into the petition.”

According to the speaker, an investigative committee has been constituted to look into the petition and the committee has the mandate to interact with Justice Oloyede in person in order to get more details of her petition.

Oloyede, in her petition to the state House of Assembly, had accused Aregbesola of financial recklessness and asked the lawmakers to impeach the governor.

In the past one month, workers and pensioners in Osun State have been demonstrating against Aregbesola asking him to vacate his seat if he could not fulfil his obligation to them. Workers have also refused to call off their strike until full payment of their seven months salaries are paid.
