THE committee set up by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to monitor the local government primaries in Oyo State has described the just- concluded exercise as free, fair, and credible.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the primaries were held across the state by the party to elect candidates for the May 15 local government elections.

A statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan by the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Seyi Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the chairman of the committee, Sen. Abdul Ningi, as making the remark while presenting the report to the governor, on Tuesday evening.

NAN reports that the presentation of the report was done at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

Ningi, while presenting the report in company with other members of the committee, said that the committee was impressed by the conduct of the primaries.

He said further that the electioneering procedure for the primaries was satisfactory to his committee.

“We discovered that the exercise was free and fair because we went round the metropolis and even to the outskirts of the city to witness the primary election. We were satisfied with what we saw,” he said.

Ningi thanked the national headquarters of PDP for the assignment given to his committee to oversee the conduct of the local government primaries in the state.

He urged members to eschew violence and desperation that could affect the oneness of the party in the state.

Speaking at the occasion, Makinde commended the committee for a job well done and praised the commitment and dedication of all the members.

He said that the committee had set the tone for the deepening of democracy in the state.

The governor implored party leaders to unite all members, especially those who were not satisfied with the outcome of the primaries.

He stated that there were many positions yet to be filled, adding that everyone would be carried along. (NAN)
