–

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari, on behalf of the entire country, has condoled with family of Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro III, Emir of Borgu and people of Niger State on the passing away of the emir.

President Buhari said he would forever treasure his memories of the late Dantoro “as a great patriot, indefatigable unifier and bridge-builder who did his utmost best as a political leader and traditional ruler to strengthen the bonds that bind all Nigerians together in the interest of national peace, harmony and progress.”

The president, who said he received the news about the death of the emir with a great shock, said he would be greatly missed by the people of Borgu emirate whom he ruled for many years with commendable wisdom, benevolence and an uncommon dedication to duty.

He said the late emir had been a friend and associate of many years, with whom he shared the vision of a peaceful, politically stable, united, progressive and prosperous Nigeria to which every citizen would be proud to belong.

“The President prays that Almighty Allah will receive Alhaji Haliru’s soul and grant his people a worthy successor who will build on the laudable legacies of his life of service to community and country,” the statement said in a statement issued by Femi Adesina, his special adviser on media and publicity.
