Veronica Ifeoma Chigbo passes on after 75 years’ sojourn on earth

VERONICA Ifeoma Chigbo, wife of Gilbert Chigbo, former commissioner for industry, in the old Anambra State, died May 2, in Calabar, Cross River State, at the age 75. Veronica, the daughter of Joseph and Cecilia Okeke, had her primary and secondary school education at Immaculata Primary School/Adaza Primary School and Queen of the Rosary College, Onitsha, respectively, before proceeding to study at Pitsman College, London, where she was trained as a confidential secretary.

She worked with JOJ Okezie, former minister of transport as secretary before moving to the ministry of works. She relocated to Enugu, when her husband was appointed commissioner of industries in 1975. There, she continued working with the ministry of works until her retirement in 1984. She was very active in the church and community and touched many lives with her kindness. She was a fun loving woman who loved to dance.

Her funeral ceremony starts on Wednesday, June 26, with a service of songs at her residence at No. 28, Umuoji Street, Independence Layout, Enugu, Enugu State by 5 pm. This will be followed by a requiem Mass at the Holy Trinity Parish, Independence Layout, Enugu, at 10 am and a vigil at Gilbert Chigbo’s compound in Abidi Village, Umuoji, Anambra State. She will be interred on Friday, June 28. Veronica is survived by Gilbert, widower, two daughters – Ifeoma, Enuma and Ikenna, her son and other relations.
