Obiano commiserates with Okowa on death of Ikemba Asaba

GOVERNOR Willie Obiano, of Anambra has described death of Ogbueshi Joe Achuzia as a “monumental loss to Nigerians, Ohaneze Ndigbo and `the Asagba-in-council’ of Delta State.

In a condolence message released on his behalf by Tony Nnachetta, the Anambra State commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Obiano voiced his regrets and sadness at news of the passing of Ikemba Asaba as he was popularly called after a bout of illness.

“This is the passing of a legend and a patriot of the highest order. A man of service and deep convictions whose exploits in the sands of time can never be forgotten by our people, both young and old.”

Obiano commended the man for his personal sacrifices at trouble shooting in Igboland, in wars and in peace for the well being of the Igbo nation.

“On behalf of the people and Government of Anambra State, Gov. Obiano commiserates with his brother the governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.’’

Achuzia, born in 1929 died, aged 90.  He also known variously as “Air Raid,’’ “Ochiagha Asab” and “Hannibal’’ in his active days.

He was recruited into the Biafran Army as a Major before being promoted to the rank of colonel in the defunct Biafran Army, where he commanded the 11th Battalion.
