Verbatim Loses Staff

VERBATIM news magazine has announced with sadness the death of one of its editorial staff, Enenche Adikwu.

Adikwu, who was the Abuja-based national news magazine’s Plateau state correspondent, died recently at the age of 49 after a brief illness.

Announcing his demise in a statement, Tobs Agbaegbu, the publication’s Editor-in-Chief described Enenche who hailed from Agatu in Benue state as “a very hardworking, humble and exemplary reporter who will be missed by the organization and the media industry as a whole for his outstanding exemplary conduct and industry.”

Agbaegbu said that since Enenche who had worked with the Nigerian Television Authorithy Yola and Jalingo, joined the publication in 2014, he made a his mark by making the magazine a force to reckon with not only in Plateau state but in neighbouring states like Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa, among others.

He prayed to God Almighty to give the deceased’s family the fortitude to bear the great loss.

The late Adikwu will be laid to rest in his home town Itakpa in Agatu local government council of Benue state on Friday, July 15.

According to the burial arrangement released by the family there will be wake keeping at his Jos residence at Nyongo Gyel, Jos South Local Government council of the state while his remains will depart Jos for final interment in his home town on Thursday July 14.

Also mourning Enenche’s tragic exit, Plateau state governor Barrister Simon Lalong described the death of the Verbatim Magazine’s reporter as painful, saying his demise came at the time that the State needed him most.

The Governor stated this when he visited the Plateau State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, to condole the council over the death of its member.

Samuel Emmanuel Nanle also described Enenche as a professional journalist whose contribution to national development through the print media would be greatly missed by the government and people of the State.

Nanle, who was accompanied by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen, also described the Verbatim Magazine reporter as a humble, sincere professional who was committed to his job and never put partisan ship, in his practice of the profession but upheld the virtues of the profession.

Yakubu Taddy, chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalist Plateau State chapter, appreciated the effort of the governor through the director of Press and SSA Media for their visit said Enenche’s death was sudden and sad, but maintained that everybody has his appointed time with God.
