THE Plateau Internal Revenue Service (PIRS) has urged journalists to enlighten the people to boost the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

PIRS Chairman, Mr Dashe Arlat, made the appeal while receiving the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau Council on Tuesday in Jos.

“Our work here as a service will not be complete without journalists, who are media professionals to tell people what we are doing.

“You are the people that handle task payers’ education and sensitization.

“Your support will certainly boost the IGR of the state because the people will be enlightened and they will do the needful with ease.

“We will continue to deepen our relationship with you for the good of the state,” Arlat said.

The PIRS chairman urged the union to feel free to give the organization ideas and advice that would improve its service, stressing that the job of revenue generation could not be done without the media.

In his remark, Mr Paul Jatau, Plateau NUJ Chairman, said that journalists were people interested in peace, development and progress of the society.

Jatau said that Plateau journalists were willing and ready to partner with organizations such as PIRS for the growth of the state.

According to him, without peace, the desire for development will remain a mirage.

“We are people who want to make good things happen for our state and we believe that we cannot make progress if we cannot contribute our quota.

“We cannot practice our trade if we don’t live in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.

“That is why everywhere we go we preach this idea of having peace and that has to do with IGR which is your major concern.

“We also lookout for ways to make IGR grow, make the state better and safer and peaceful for our people,” the union chairman said.

He expressed hope that the relationship with PIRS leadership would open up new vistas for development in the state.

Jatau assured the PIRS boss that the door of the NUJ was open for the service if they need journalists’ assistance. (NAN)
