THE Police Command in Delta has nabbed a middle-aged man, Akpos James, over alleged killing of policemen at an eatery in Ughelli in January.

The Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Edafe Bright, disclosed this to newsmen on Saturday in Warri.

Bright said the suspect was apprehended by the command’s Special Anti-kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKCCS) on April 24, 2021 at Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the suspect was also arrested in connection with several kidnapping and armed robbery cases in Abraka, Warri, Ughelli and Sapele environs.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect who gave useful information in connection to the crime led same operatives to the gang’s hideout at Bomadi Waterside on April 30 at about 02:40p.m.,” he said.

He said other members of the gang engaged the police in a gun battle, but owing to the superior fire power of the police, they escaped with various degrees of gun shot injuries into a river.

The police spokesman said that two Ak47 rifles, 114 rounds of 7.62 ammunition with six magazines were recovered from their hideout.

He added that the command had launched a manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang, and enjoined the public to avail the police of useful information that could facilitate the arrest of the hoodlums.

Bright said that in a related development, the command apprehended three suspected car snatchers on Abraka-Eku Road in Ethiope East Local Government Area.

He identified the suspects as: Seidu Mohammed, Samuel Daniel and Yusuf Mekudu, adding that they were nabbed on Thursday by a patrol team of policemen.

“On April 29, at about 1:35 p.m., a patrol team of police men attached to 51PMF while on nipping point along Abraka-Eku expressway, flagged down a tinted Toyota Camry car with registration number LKJ 52 AW.

“The suspects could not give satisfactory account of themselves and how they got the vehicle. They were arrested and taken to the police station and investigations commenced immediately.

“During interrogation, they confessed that they stole the car on April 28, 2021 at about 12:30p.m., from where it was parked at International Market, Lokoja, Kogi State,” he said. (NAN)
