THE Police on Tuesday arraigned a man and woman before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos over alleged N13.5 million land fraud.

The defendants, Mrs Nercy Osas, 45 and Mr Emmanuel Osayande, 23 whose addresses were not given, are facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP. Clement Okuoimose told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometimes in 2018 at Sibiri Town, Lagos.

Okuoimose said that Osas and Osayande collected the sum of  N13.5 million from Mrs Evelyn Eze, with the pretext of buying a landed property for her.

”They converted the money to their personal use and never bought the property as agreed with her,” he said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million each, with two sureties in like sum.

Adefioye further said that one of sureties must own landed property in Lagos State and should show proof of ownership.

He said the second surety must be a relative of the defendant with evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 14 for mention. (NAN)
