Police arraign man, 46, over alleged N1.8m fraud

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 46-year-old man, Akinyele Gbenga, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N1.8million fraud.

The defendant of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of fraud, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in February 2018 at 09:00 hours at Mission School Area, off Fabian Avenue in Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N1.8 million from the complainant, Mr Salami Tajudeen, on the pretext to sell a building to him.

He said that the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The counsel to the defendant, Mr Idowu Owoeye, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The magistrate, Mrs Dolapo Fasuba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until March 16 for hearing. (NAN)
