THE Police in Osun on Tuesday arraigned a 23-year old man, Abdullahi Sheu, at an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, over alleged theft of a stabiliser and other goods.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 2 around 2:00 p.m. at Sabo Area, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to the offence.

He added that the defendant broke into the residence of one Adeboye Amos and took away one Automatic Voltage Regulator with stabiliser valued at N55,000.

According to him, other items stolen are standing fan costing N10,000 with  window blind worth N25,000, all with a total value of N90,000, property of Adeboye Amos.

The Prosecutor stated further that the defendant escaped from lawful custody, to avoid facing trial in the case of stealing against him.

Osanyintuyi explained that the offence contravened the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing, intent to commit felony and contempt of custody.

Magistrate O.B. Adediwura did not grant the defendant bail, but ordered for his remand at Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Centre.

Adediwura said that this would serve as deterrent to others.

She adjourned the case until Dec 12, for hearing.(NAN)
