THE Police Command in Ebonyi says it has arrested more than seven house-breakers and vandals in different parts of Abakaliki.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Loveth Odah, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday but declined to mention the names of the suspects arrested.

Odah said the arrest of the suspects was part of the command’s efforts at strengthening its strategy on community policing.

He appealed to residents of the state to support the efforts of the police at maintaining law and order by reporting the movement of suspicious characters in their localities.

She also advised motorists to ensure the safety of their vehicles by parking them in areas where there was maximum security.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that residents of the area have been complaining of frequent incidences of burglary and vandalism of their property.

Mr Ernest Ozuma, a Barber at Nkwogu street Abakaliki, told NAN that his barbing salon was recently burgled.

“I went to my shop last Friday to discover that it had been burgled and the tools carted away by the burglars.

“I suspect that the burglars knew my movements and might have studied the environment adequately before carrying out the act,” he said.

A motorist, Mr Jerry Ofuokwu, said his car was vandalised by unidentified persons on Thursday.

“The vandals carted away my battery and other items and the most painful aspect is that I regularly pay my security levies for the upkeep of vigilantes in the area.

“I don’t see the need of maintaining the vigilance outfits when they cannot secure our property; the police should also increase its surveillance in various parts of the town,” he said. (NAN)
