–

THE police have arrested 22 members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign States of Biafra, MASSOB, in some parts of the country.

The police said one person was arrested in Abia, four were apprehended in Anambra, six in Imo and 11 in Delta states.

Olabisi Kolawole, Police public relations officer, in Abuja, on Tuesday, September 8, said the arrests were sequel to the order by Solomon Arase, inspector–general of Police, for a clampdown on persons or group of persons inciting violence and social disorder across the country.

The police said all the persons so far arrested for inciting violence, irrespective of their class or status in the society, would be charged to court.

The statement said in part: “This directive becomes imperative owing to recent activities of members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign States of Biafra and the Indigenous People of Biafra in some parts of the country.

“This operational order empowers the police to arrest anybody fomenting any act of violence or disorder, or any act inimical to the security of the nation.”
