A polio survivor in Jos, Mr. Makop Dan, has appealed to the Plateau Government to provide free education and scholarship for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the state, from primary to tertiary level.

Dan, a part-time lecturer with the Plateau State Polytechnic and a PhD student with the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos.

According to him, such a gesture will enable them to access proper and quality education that will in turn make them more useful to themselves and society.

He said that majority of PWDs in the state lacked the resources and wherewithal to sponsor their education, hence the need for government to intervene.

“I am calling on Plateau Government to give free education and scholarships to PWDs, so that those who can’t sponsor themselves, can have access to quality education.

“This will in no small measure give the PWDs a sense of belonging and will further lead to the growth and development of the state,’’ the lecturer said.

He also urged the government to give special consideration to such category of people who possessed the requisite qualifications, during employment, lamenting that many PWDs whom were graduates still roamed the street without jobs. (NAN)
