Aisha Buhari Returns from London, Visits Owerri

AISHA Buhari, wife of the President Muhammadu Buhari, returned to Nigeria on Thursday, August 3, and attended a public function in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Suleiman Haruna, director of Information to the wife of the president, said Aisha Buhari first landed in Abuja, from where she proceeded to Owerri, where she served as Mother of the Day for the 2017 August meeting tagged “Building Bridges of Friendship across the Niger.”

The wife of the president was received at the Sam Mbakwe Cargo International Airport in Owerri by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, and Nneoma, his wife, who organised of the “annual August meeting.”

At the event, Aisha Buhari said: “This gathering is a celebration of the resourcefulness of womanhood. It is important because at meetings like this, Igbo women gather to discuss developmental issues and peaceful coexistence at the community levels.”

Buhari said that women, as mothers, had the enormous task of building solid bridges that would serve as the required platform for national unity irrespective of political, religious and tribal differences.

She assured women of her constant support to all programmes that would promote their well-being.

In his message to the gathering, which had the wife of the governor of Zamfara State and wife of the Senate president in attendance, Okorocha commended women for promoting oneness among Nigerians, and urged them to prevail on their husbands in leadership positions to strive toward getting the best from their women.

In her speech, the wife of the governor advised women to inculcate the good virtues of unity and love in their children.

She described women as agents of positive changes, growth and development, adding that no society would do better without the contributions of women.
