BRIG- General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Director-General, on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to Katsina State to commiserate with the victims of a road accident.
The accident, which occurred on Sunday, claimed lives of three serving corps members who were traveling from Katsina to Funtua for a religious programme, while other NYSC members were injured.
A statement by Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, said that the injured corps members were on admission at General Amadi Rimi Orthopedic and Specialist Hospital, Federal Medical Centre and General Hospital in Katsina.
“The DG expressed shock over the unfortunate incident and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured and the repose of the souls of the departed corps members.
“He appealed to corps members to always regulate their movements in line with NYSC laid down rules on travelling.
“The DG commended Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, for his magnanimity in conveying the accident victims to the hospital.
“The DG said the purpose of his visit was to assess the level of medicare and recuperation of the corps members who were on admission.
“He reiterated management’s stand against unauthorised journey for all serving corps members,” she added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a vehicle conveying 12 corps members from Katsina to Funtua was involved in a ghastly road accident in Gobirawa in Kankara Local Government area of the state on Sunday.
Three of them died on the spot, while others sustained varied degrees of injuries. (NAN)
