Elections were yet to commence at some wards in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State as of 8.45 a.m. as some ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission refused to take the election materials to the units.
At Ward 8 which has 22 units under it, the ad hoc staff were seen sitting on the field of the centre, Methodist Primary School, Owo.
It was gathered that the ad hoc staff were protesting against the part payment of their allowances by the INEC.
A corps member informed our correspondent that they were supposed to be paid N8,000 but were paid N4,000, which is why they refused to move the materials.
It was also gathered that the commission did not provide enough buses to convey the materials and the staff to their designated units. – Punch
