The governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, has kicked against the violence carried out across the state during the presidential and National Assembly elections which held on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

Agbaje, during a press briefing on Monday, added that the mayhem was a deliberate attempt by the ruling All Progressives Party to deprive members of the PDP to exercise their civic rights.

He said, “I am disappointed at the act of violence that took place on the day of the presidential and National Assembly elections. We had violence displayed, especially in PDP strongholds. The act of violence is condemned in its strongest terms because it is deliberate by the ruling party in Lagos State to intimidate and discourage residents from coming out to vote.

“We call on law enforcement agents to bring those who are responsible for the mayhem to book. If we want to talk about democracy, then we have to practice it properly; it means that everybody must play their part.

“If voters are coming out to vote, then we must ensure that their votes will count. In a situation where the security agents fail to apprehend those that created the problem; that means the voters have been disenfranchised. That means we are only paying lip service to our democracy.”

The governorship aspirant also condemned the delay in declaring results, stating that the results were being tampered with.

“As I speak today, we have a situation where results are being delayed. It is two days now and results are yet to be released in Lagos State. And they are not being released in areas that we have strength.

“It is just an indication that these results are being manipulated. And this is not acceptable to us. We call on INEC and security agencies to do what the constitution empowers them to do and that is to be free, fair and just to all parties concerned,” he added.
