–

GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi of State has directed a 50 percent cut in the monthly salaries and entitlements of all political appointees in the state.

This was disclosed by Olalekan Alli, secretary to the State Government, while speaking with newsmen at the state secretariat, Ibadan on Monday, November 7. Alli further said that the adjustment in the take-home pay of the political appointees would take immediate effect.

The Ajimobi administration has been having a running battle with workers in the state on the payment of their salaries. The state government paid the workers last in April, which means they are being owed five months. While explaining the reason for slashing the salaries, Alli said: “The slash in salary is for all political appointees starting from the governor, deputy governor, commissioners, special advisers, senior special advisers, among others.” he said the decision to cut the salaries was taken in the last executive council meeting in the state. “This was approved by the governor along with his cabinet members at the last executive members meeting. This will also include slash in government expense profile, and compensation of political appointees.” he said.

Alli further expressed optimism that the restructuring exercise and efforts of the state government to block all loopholes would make positive impact on the state Internally Generated Revenue. He used the forum to hint that a ten thousand metric tonnes of Silo at Oyo town behind constructed by the state government was about being completed.
