LAGOS State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has charged senior public officers in charge of Human Resource Management in the State to develop a road map that will lead to the reaffirmation of a strong unified public service.

Governor Ambode, ‎who gave the charge in Lagos today while declaring open a three-day retreat for members of Commissions and other related boards in the State Public Service explained that a unified and non-discriminatory public will guarantee the much desired efficient and effective service delivery.

According to him, “Given the experience I have gathered in the mainstream service and local government service, l am convinced that a unified and non-discriminatory public service will guarantee the much desired efficient and effective service delivery. This will naturally result from the application of uniform rules, standards and procedures across the various service commissions”.

Ambode noted that a clear understanding of the essence, purpose and advantage of an efficient, effective and motivated public service is the main reason behind the various reforms of the State Government in the Public Service.

He asserted that a well structured public service that is in tune with global best practices will always be an invaluable asset for the successful implementation of government’s policies and programmes.

“As a product of the State public service myself, I take pride in affirming that the Lagos State Public Service is an efficient, proactive, value -driven and fit-for-purpose organ of the State Government that provides leadership and direction in building a dynamic and well motivated workforce for effective service delivery”, he said.

The Governor pointed out that the retreat was informed by the need to carry along major stakeholders involved in the regulation of recruitment, appointment, promotion, discipline and transfer in order to guarantee the successful implementation of the vision and mission of the State Government.

“Since the workforce is regulated by various Commissions which are either constitutionally rooted or established by government to regulate recruitment, appointment, promotion, discipline, transfer etc in all the three tiers of governments, it is necessary that the Principal Officers and members of the recently constituted Commissions and heads of Administration in the Local Government and Council Development Areas be carried along to guarantee the successful implementation of the vision and mission of the State Government ,” Governor Ambode opined.

He noted that the theme of the retreat, “Repositioning the Human Resource Capacity of the State Public Service for Efficient and Effective Service Delivery”, clearly underscores the government’s expectations of and from the State Public Service.

Earlier, the Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola noted that the retreat was put together to evolve common standards on Human Resource policies in the State as well as establish a uniform template for the implementation of common policies on HRM in Service Commissions and Boards.

She commended the State Governor for his commitment towards having an efficient, effective and motivated public service towards the entrenchment of best practices in service delivery to the citizens of Lagos State.
