CHAIRMAN of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ogun State chapter, Emmanuel Bankole has said that the outgoing Governor Ibikunle Amosun has paid the workers’ deductions as promised.

The NLC Chairman told our correspondent exclusively on phone on Tuesday while clearing the air on the insinuation that the Governor has reneged on his promise to pay the deductions.

Amosun had met some backlogs of outstanding deductions owed the workers in the state since he assumed office in 2011.

The Governor had a few weeks ago during the Workers’ Day celebration held in Abeokuta told the workers they would start receiving credit alert after 24 hours.

But a few days after, workers had yet to receive any alert, this development prompted insinuations from the workers that the Governor might not have paid the money.

Our correspondent gathered that the N20.2 billion had been paid as announced by the Governor before Workers’ Day.

It was gathered that the delay in the payment was caused by the administrators of cooperatives who reportedly held on to the money.

When asked whether the workers have started receiving alerts, the NLC chairman confirmed that a substantial number of workers have started receiving credit alerts.

He said, “(A) good number of them (workers), yes, have been paid”.

He, however, said local governments workers were not so lucky as there were yet to receive alerts.

He said “Except for local governments workers, most have not been paid.

“All the deductions have been paid. I can confirm this to you”.

The NLC Chairman, however, said that the outgoing Governor had not paid the leave bonus and contributory pensions. “Except the leave bonus and contributory pensions”, he said. – Punch
