ANAMBRA State joined the Chinese Community in Abuja, to celebrate the 2019 China New Year celebration. They marked the day on Feb. 2.

Anambra used the opportunity offered by forum to display some aspects of Anambra rich cultural heritage.

The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria had invited Gov. Willie Obiano because of outstanding performance of Anambra Cultural Troupe in displaying the culture and traditions of the state.

Tony Ezenwaka, permanent secretary, Ministry of The Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artwork, Culture and Tourism, said this in an interview at his Jerome Udoji Secretariat office, Awka.

Ezenwaka, who represented the commissioner at the event said: “Anambra is leading state in promoting cultural heritage. It shows ability, doggedness and adds colour to events’’.

“This motivated the Chinese embassy to exclusively invite only Anambra Cultural Troupe to their New Year celebration.’’

He noted that Anambra and China has long standing fraternal relations as the troupe had visited China and the Chinese Ambassador had been in the state.

“The inspiring performances of the troupe opened up a lot of windows of opportunity to the state.

“The cultural troupe will be invited to China for the Beijing international cultural show,’’ Ezenwaka said.

According to him the Chinese ambassador will be paying the governor a visit to request for land to build cultural centre in the state.

“China wants to offer scholarships to Ndi Anambra to study in their new international education programme and sponsor our children for training on calisthenics.

“China already has a cultural presence in Awka, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University but they want to take the educational programme further by building cultural centre in the state,’’ Ezenwaka added.

The leader of the troupe, Mr Obi Edochie expressed joy at the outcome of the invitation to the New Year celebration.

He commended the governor and commissioner for all their support and efforts toward making the troupe the best in the country.

He, then, prayed for more sponsorship and support from the state government to enable the troupe to continue making the state proud. (MOI)
