THE Anambra State government under the leadership Willie Obiano is known to emphasise transparency in his governance principles.

C Don Adinuba, the commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, said this at a One-Day Public enlightenment Programme on Communicating Government Policies, Programmes and Activities.

The event was organised by the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Anambra Directorate, at the ASATU Hall, Government House, Awka.

The commissioner was represented at the occasion by Anthony Nweke, the acting director, Ministry of Information.

He said that Anambra was the only state in the South East that had invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and Code of Conduct Bureau to check its books.

“The idea, he said, was to demonstrate that the state did not have anything to hide and was certain that its governance principle met minimum standards of transparency.’’

According to the commissioner, Obiano is a working governor whose developmental strides in the state are laudable.

“The ministry is committed to its duties of sensitising and enlightening the public on the activities, programmes and policies of government.’’

He enjoined community leaders in the state to co-operate with no fewer than 175 information officers deployed to cover activities all 21 Local Government Areas.

“Their activities are coverage of activities taking place in communities as well as getting feedback from rural folks for processing at the headquarters.’’

He commended NOA for organising the programme and urged the president-generals, PGs, Women Leaders of towns and Civil Society Organisations cooperate with information officers in the dissemination of outcome of the programme to all stakeholders.

Charles Nwoji, the state director, NOA, said that the programme was organised to emphasize the need for relaying government policies and programmes to the public.

Earlier, Igwe Emeka Ilouno, the traditional ruler of Ifitedunu, called for the employment of Community Liaison Officers, now that virtually all communities have civic centres.

He acknowledged that government had done a lot, but said they want more to be accomplished in order to life at rural community levels.

Tony Nezianya, the SA to governor on Media, said that Ministry of Information has active portal through which information were disseminated to all including those in The Diaspora.

He urged all leaders at state and community levels to make effective use of information officers at the domains in covering their events.

“They are not spies, they are Anambra State officials, there to help you to offer you free publicity to your public events.’’
