ANAMBRA State has continued to maintain the top position in Home Grown School Feeding Programme in Nigeria, HGSFP.

The programme which involves the feeding of primary 1 to 3 school children in all the public schools in the state on daily basis has been aimed at improving the enrollment of school children.

`It is also aimed at improving their health status, increase food production and create job opportunities.’

The state,  the first to kick off the programme in the country in December 2016, out of 18 pilot states across country, organised a linkage meeting in the state.

Flagging off one of the meetings at Awka South Local Government Area, LGA, recently, Leo Imoka, commissioner for Agriculture, represented by permanent secretary, ministry of Agriculture  commended Gov. Willie Obiano for his support of the initiative.

Chinwe Iwuchukwu, deputy focal person, Social Investment Programme Anambra State, said the major aim of the linkage meeting was to form a link between the farmers and the Home Grown School Feeding Caterers and the farmers.

The essence of the introduction was for the caterers to be able to purchase their food stuff directly from the farmers at very low rates.

According to her, this in turn will help the farmers to increase their sales, and ensure improved productivity.
