Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra says he will not relent in his fight against malpractice and other social ills that have crippled the education system, especially in secondary schools.

Obiano said primary and secondary schools were basic foundations to determine the future of the society.

He said this while inaugurating Queens Convent, Secondary School, Ifite-Awka, Awka South Local Government Area, LGA.

The governor noted that the essence of handing over schools to missions in Anambra was to give proper re-orientation to the younger generation, stressing that previous generations had embraced corruption and impunity.

“Mission schools will instill morals and effective standard of living. Those trained by missionaries have morally-defined characters that depict excellence and high level of virtue.

“I will continue providing every facility that will encourage learning.

“We have released the first batch of promotion and the second batch will be released soon,’’ he said.

The governor adds: “Teachers and other civil servants in Anambra will continue receiving their benefits.

“They will start receiving their Leave Allowances from November 10. This is to enable them to make their Christmas purchases on time.

“Before Christmas, they will receive their bags of rice and other benefits.

“Next year, there will be general increment in salary. We are doing all these to promote the welfare of workers in the state,’’ Obiano stated.

He, however, urged private individuals to invest in education to sustain the tempo of learning in the state.

Alexander Ibezim, Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, stressed that the essence of establishing the school was to upgrade their morals, which would be in line with the dreams of  Obiano administration.
