THE Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) on Tuesday commended Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for terminating the appointment of the Director General, Department of State Service (DSS), Lawal Daura, with immediate effect.

Mr Sesugh Akume, National Spokesman of the party, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the symbolism of such a decisive action was noteworthy.

Recall that the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has directed the termination of the appointment of Daura with immediate effect.

The directive was made known in a statement issued by the acting President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande in Abuja on Tuesday.

ANRP also condemned the seige laid on the National Assembly Complex by operatives of the DSS.

The security  operatives of the DSS had, as early as 7 a.m., barricaded the entrance to the National Assembly complex denying some lawmakers, journalists and staff of the assembly access into the premises.

”ANRP notes that four years ago, Mr Suleiman Abba, the then Inspector-General of Police did a similar lock down on the National Assembly with same impunity.

”Regrettably, our society is not learning from past errors, but repeating same and going in circles,” he said.

Akume decried the lock down on the National Assembly, saying such action posed grave danger to the nation’s democracy.

According to him, the legislature is the symbol of a democracy.

He also advised political leaders to prioritise the duty of governance, rather than pursue selfish ambitions characterised by defecting, aligning and realigning when the country was facing challenges.

Akume also appealed that public institutions should not be used to fight personal and selfish battles.

He urged Nigerians to work towards 2019 and elect service-oriented and patriotic citizens as leaders. (NAN)
