Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Enugu West senatorial Zone, says the party is no longer factionalised in the state as witnessed during its primaries.

Nwagwu-Ibekaku made this known on Tuesday at a Thanksgiving Mass at St Michael’s Cathederal in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State to flag-off her senatorial ambition.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Awgu is the Local Government headquarters of the senatorial district.

“We are now united. All members of the faction are here at the thanksgiving mass. This is a Mass of unity.

“This shows that we are united and ready for the campaign because we are moving into the campaign in unity,” she said.

She said that her four-point agenda would be to pursue improved education, health care delivery for the women to check maternal mortality, job creation and industrialisation.

On her chances as a woman, she said that what happened in the American mid-term election where women were elected massively would be replicated in Enugu State.

“I will use my membership of the Senate to pursue gender equality. The women are now more aware of the rights and the need to get more women into the corridors of power,” she said.

According to her, the women have no reasons whatsoever to be afraid or lukewarm in Nigeria’s politics.

The officiating priest, Monsignor Christian Anieke, who spoke after the mass, stressed the need for more women to aspire for political offices in the country’s political space.

Anieke, the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, said that he had been canvassing for women in the country’s political space.

He said that the church had no political powers to enthrone people into offices but uses its instrumentality of prayers, especially the intercessory Rosary to pray for candidates.

The Cathederal Administrator, Rev. Fr. Nnaemeka Nwadu, in his homily, commended the senatorial candidate for the thanksgiving mass to flag off her campaign,

Nwadu advised Ibekaku-Nwagwu not to deviate from doing the will of God because “God strengthens those who does his will.”

Citing from the Bible readings taken from Revelation 3:1-6 and Luke 19:1-10, Nwadu told the politician that “you cannot prove victorious without God”.

He reminded those in authority to make restitution like Zacheus to the poor and downtrodden in the country.
