The National Youth Corps members have been advised to approach their host communities with open minds and complement their efforts with different skills so as to leave indelible marks in the hearts of Ndi Anambra.

Governor Willie Obiano made the appeal during the closing ceremonies of 2018 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course, at the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp, temporarily site, Umunya.

The governor, who was represented by Solo Chukwulobelu, the secretary to the state government, urged corps members to answer the call to National service with every sense of seriousness and patriotism.

“You all will be seen as agents of growth and transformation of the nation.

“As leaders of tomorrow and hope of this great nation, you are to utilise your intellect, resourcefulness and energy positively in the service of the nation,’’ Obiano said.

He called on corps members to abide by the laid down electoral laws, as the 2019 General Elections got near, and refuse to be used by politicians for ulterior motives.

“You must emulate your predecessors, who were unbiased umpires in previous elections. The nation reposes a lot of confidence in you; you must not let the corps down.

“We assure you that your security and welfare during the conduct of the election and the remaining part of your service year in Anambra is of top priority to us.

“I, therefore, urge you to settle down to offer diligent services to your fatherland here in Anambra,’’ he said.

Obiano notes: “Anambra State gives the highest remuneration to Corps members posted to the state.’’

He, then, said that modalities were being worked to further encourage corps members in the rural areas of the state, with special payment packages.

The governor commended the NYSC for impressive contributions to his administration’s human capital development initiative, through efficient distribution of corps’ manpower to bridge the manpower gap in the areas of critical need.

“We shall leave no stones unturned in reciprocating your kind gesture through improved support to the NYSC in Anambra State.

“I have ordered that the Permanent Orientation Camp at Umuawulu/Mbaukwu to be made ready before the end of the year.

“The 2019 batch of corps members will have more conducive environment for their induction course. We have always offered employment to the best outstanding corps member in the state annually,’’ Obiano added.

He noted that, as part of developing and empowering youths, NYSC has reached an understanding with the Bank of Industry and the Central Bank to avail corps members’ soft loans to establish their dream businesses after the service year.

Kehinde Aremu, the state coordinator of the NYSC, expressed gratitude to the governor for his continued support and provisions for the success of the orientation course.

Aremu appealed vibrant private sectors to complement the efforts of the state government for speedy completion of the Umuawulu/Mbaukwu NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp for the 2019 Batch `A’ Orientation Course.
