OWEN Nwokolo, a reverend and the bishop on the Niger, has underscored the spiritual and material significance of the Christian Knighthood and tasked members to imbibe the basic virtues of the order.

Nwokolo said this in a homily he delivered during the family Day Celebration and Re dedication of members of the diocesan Knights of St Christopher at the All Saints’ Cathedral, Onitsha.

He had, while highlighting the traditional tenets of knighthood, urged individual knights, dames and ladies to be peculiar and exemplary as they lead their lives.

Presenting the biblical Moses as an exemplary knight, the bishop in his homily tagged, “Seeking the Lord, Moses’ example’’, described Moses as a true servant of God.

He explained that as good servant of God, Moses did all he could to serve God and people of God.

“From his childhood days Moses exhibited a life style, characteristic of a selfless servant of God and people of God,’’ Nwokolo remarked.

The bishop then, enjoined all members of the knighthood, especially those of the Knight of Saint Christopher, to emulate Moses by rendering dedicated and selfless services to God and humanity.

No fewer than 800 knights, dames and ladies of the diocese presented themselves for rededication, after sessions of prayers.

They later took oath of allegiance to Christ as they confessed non membership of secret cults and promised never to belong to any.

In an address to the Council of Knights of the diocese at a reception at the C.J. Patterson Auditorium, Joseph Ilonze, the president of the order, recounted the spiritual and material landmarks that he and the council so far recorded.

He explained that unprecedented membership growth, to some extent had helped them to launch various capital intensive projects including the building of guest houses and erection of security gates at strategic locations for the diocese.

Ilonze, who could not hide his joy for what he called “progressive exploits of the council’’ appealed to members not to relent in active participation and in financial support.
