Policemen intervene to stop anti-Bola Ahmed Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress, protests in Ikeja, Lagos today

But for the quick intervention of policemen from the Lagos State Police Command, parts of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, would have erupted in protests, as residents rise against former Governor of the state, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

The policemen, were said to have contained the protesters at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, where some notable political activists were holding a rally ahead of the February 9 governorship election, where Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is believed to have more than a passing interest.

The group, acting on the platform of the Orange Movement, had converged on Oramiyan Hall in the hotel to strategise on how to stop Bola Tinubu, who practically stopped the incumbent Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode in favour of the APC candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

To effect their plot, the group had adopted O to Ge, (Enough is Enough), a similar declaration with which Senate President, Bukola Saraki’s quest to return to the Senate, was quashed by his defeat in the Kwara Central Senatorial election, last Saturday.

A member of the movement told TheCable on Thursday that the police said the group did not seek permission from the appropriate quarters before organising the rally. – Whirlwind
