Buhari Appoints Kachikwu as NNPC GMD, Replaces Juwah

THE federal government of Nigeria today appointed Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, as the new group managing director, GMD, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC. Kachikwu, until his new appointment was the executive vice chairman of ExxonMobil Africa. Realnews learnt that Kachikwu has been having discussions with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.on the new agenda he is to implement in the country’s cash cow which has been bedeviled by allegations of corruption.

The NNPC is very important to Nigerian because it generates about 80 percent of the country’s revenue from oil and gas exports. But the management of the country has been opaque, leading to calls from the public for restructuring it.

Kachikwu who hails from Delta State, is a First Class Graduate of Law from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and the Nigerian Law School. He also has a Masters and Doctorate Degree in Law from Harvard Law School USA, with distinctions.

“The ExxonMobil Upstream affiliates in Nigeria congratulate our vice-chairman and general counsel, Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu, on this opportunity to serve Nigeria as group managing director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC. We thank Dr. Kachikwu for his many contributions to ExxonMobil Nigeria, and wish him well in his new role,” a statement from the company made available to Realnews today said.

A former investment attorney in the United States, and the publisher of several magazine titles, Kachikwu has also taught Law at Harvard, Nigerian Law School and several globally acclaimed institutions.

He has three published Law books in Investment Law and Contracts and numerous articles in various Journals. In his capacity as the vice chairman and general counsel of ExxonMobil, he oversees the compliance programmmes of the company and advices on issues related to adherence with compliance regulations and anti-corruption laws in Africa.

Before he joined Mobil, Kachikwu worked as general counsel of Texaco Upstream and Downstream in Nigeria.

Also,  Buhari has replaced Eugene Juwah, chief executive officer of Nigerian Communications commission with Professor Umaru Garba Danbatta, who was in the commission before leaving to become a vice chancellor.
