Buhari’s faltering War on Corruption Onitsha Youth carnival 2017 holds

THE Youths of Onitsha Ado celebrated their Annual Youth Carnival in grand style on Thursday October 12, 2107 at Onitsha.

This is an event that since the past two, now precede the Ofala Festival, meant, traditionally to usher in a new year in Ancient Onitsha Kingdom.

The youth carnival had youths of Onitsha Ado Kingdom, showcase their rich culture and tradition to the world.

They paraded the streets of Onitsha metropolis in large groups wearing different beautiful cultural attires representing various interest groups in Onitsha kingdom.

The carnival-like parade marched in groups, starting with the king hunters known as Egbenu Oba.

They were followed by the Umu Ada, the wives and daughters of Onitsha, OTU Odu, the prestigious society of distinguished women of title, Ikporo Onitsha, the Agbalanze (the titled men), from various villages that make up up the kingdom.

It also involved, the Ndi di-okpa (the heads of various clans), the Agbala N’ irukwu, (the wise men of Onitsha) and Omu (the head of women of Onitsha).

The red cap chiefs (Ndi Ichie, Onitsha) followed immediately along side, the representative of the Agbogidi (the Obi of Onitsha).

The talented maidens contesting for `Miss Ofala’ and followed behind by other carnival groups.

This year’s carnival was organised by Patrick Agha Mba, the leader of the Onitsha Youth Council, OYC, the Transition Committee Chairman of Onitsha North LGA.

In an interview with the youth council leader, Mba said:  “the main aim of the carnival was to showcase to the world, the rich cultural heritage of Onitsha Ado kingdom.”

He also noted that this year’s carnival was programmed to attract tourists and international sponsors.
