CAN backs Dickson, Supports Policy on Grazing

THE Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commended Governor Seriake Dickson for dedicating Bayelsa State to God and for promoting various activities to glorify the almighty since he assumed office in 2012.

According to the apex Christian ‎body, the ongoing construction of the ecumenical center is one of the most remarkable pointer to the governor’s love for God and expressed optimism that when fully completed the purpose of it will be adequately utilized.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the governor at the Government House in Yenagoa, Leader of CAN in the South-South, ‎Archbishop God-Do-Well Arromakpa encouraged ‎him to continue in that direction which he said is responsible for the peace the state has been enjoying.

“I believe that the only state in Nigeria where people are not being killed continually and on a daily basis is in Bayelsa State and that is because of what you are doing‎”.

He also observed that if not for the governor’s outstanding ‎wisdom people of the state would have been victims of mindless killings from suspected Fulani herdsmen and added that the association will continue to support his government in prayers.

“You have handled the matter of herdsmen with a high wisdom that Bayelsa may not know now, Nigeria may not know now and also the South-South may not know now”.

Archbishop Arromakpa‎ ‎announced that they are in the state for the first leg of their special regional crusade tagged: Thy Kingdom Come.

On the issue of pilgrimage, the clergyman appeal to the governor to revisit it and noted that prayers in the holy land changes a lot of things which is why more Bayelsans need to visit there.

‎Responding, Dickson‎ who thanked them for the visit and their continuous prayers also assured of his willingness to partner with the body of Christ to move the state forward while also charging Christians to always stand up for their faith.

“I want to thank you for your prayers for our country, I want to also thank you for your prayers for our state. Let me say that Christian leaders need to wake up and stand for our faith. We should not be scared to do so, we should not be ashamed to show our Christianity” he said.

The governor who also took time to once again explain the policy of grazing by his administration lamented that it was misunderstood by a lot of people when it was introduced but however noted that people are beginning to appreciate the idea.

While assuring the CAN leaders of his government’s disposition to support pilgrimage, Dickson described it as a very important Christian exercise and called on privileged people in the state to support the pilgrims board and sponsor intending pilgrims who cannot afford the cost.

He said the ecumenical center will be completed this year and maintained that Bayelsa remains the only state in the country that has a day specially set aside and backed by law to thank God because of his blessings and sufficient grace.

“Every month we assemble and with the support of the clergy in the state we do what we call a praise night and in addition we are the only state that has declared a public holiday ‎to thank almighty God for his blessings. We believe we are a blessed land and we have been doing that for five years now” he concluded.
