Convert Okoh Poly to Ekwueme University - Former Vice Chancellor

PROF. Iheanacho Orajaka, former Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University, added his voice to calls upgrading of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, to Ekwueme University of Technology.

He also said that after the upgrade the university should be named after Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme.

Orajaka made the suggestion in a tribute to the late former Vice-President of Nigeria Alex Ekwueme.

According to the university don, who is chairman of old Aguata Union Committee for burial of the elder statesman noted that he left many legacies.

“Ekwueme will best be remembered for championing the creation of nation’s six geo-political zones and formation of the G-34, which frustrated the despotic Abacha regime.

He listed other achievements of Ekwueme such as formation of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, relocation of the university of Nigeria Teaching Hospital from Enugu to Ituku-Ozala.

He led the founding, of the Federal Polytechnic Oko and sponsoring some youths to overseas on scholarship.

Prof. Orajaka described Ekwueme as humble, unassuming silent achiever, who contributed immensely to the political development of Nigeria, and was a light to his community, Oko.

He said the union will on February 4, in his honour organise special condolence for the deceased at his country home, Oko.
