Dangote Group denies involvement in moving Almajiris to southeast

THE management of Dangote Industries Limited has denied the report that its trucks are being used to move northern youths to the southeast. The company called on the general public to disregard such news reports.

The company in a letter addressed to John Nnia Nwodo, president-general, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Wednesday, May 27, said: “Our attention has been drawn to various media reports (print and online) alleging that trucks belonging to the Dangote Industries Limited are being deliberately used to transport Northern youths to the South.

“The Management of the Company categorically denies these spurious and misleading allegations, and hereby calls upon the general public to disregard such reports. We also wish to solicit the assistance of the general public in the fight to rid the organization of illegal haulage activities being perpetrated by some unscrupulous persons,” it said.

The letter signed by Anthony Chiejina, group chief branding, and communications officer, Dangote Industries Limited, said that Dangote trucks are only permitted to transport materials belonging to its group of companies: Dangote Cement Plc, which produces Dangote Cement, Limestone, high-Grade Gypsum and Coal; Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc, which produces Dangote Sugar; Nascon Allied Industries Plc, which produce Dangote Salt and DanQ Seasoning, and Dangote Agrosacks Limited, which produces Dangote branded sacks and bags.

“We hereby alert the public to report any suspected Dangote truck driver involved in illegal haulage supported with credible evidence of such act. To make a report, call Dangote Industries Management hotline on all information regarding illegal haulage activities on Obajana- 08131768000, Ibese- 08131771111, 08131770999 and 08131771000 or email us at customercare@dangote.com.

“While making your report, remember to include the following details: truck type, truck plate number, truck cab No., location of the truck, the content of the truck, colour of the truck, and photographs of the truck and goods if possible. The police and/or other law enforcement agents are authorized to arrest any Dangote truck driver involved in such illegal act.

“At any time, only two persons are authorized to be in our track; the driver and his assistant. Dangote Industries Limited also wishes to warn those who illegally transport materials on Dangote trucks that such unauthorized goods shall be confiscated and such drivers and /or owners prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
