Democracy Day: Gov. Yahaya inaugurates modern health, education facilities in Gombe

GOV. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State on Friday inaugurated a modern Accident and Emergency (A&E) unit of the specialist hospital in Gombe alongside other projects in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the newly inaugurated A&E unit has 18 consulting rooms, 13-bed spaces, a laboratory, a nurses’ restroom, a theatre, and a seminar room.

The hospital was equally provided with 11 Hulus Ford vehicles for the Primary Health Care coordinators across the 11 local government areas in the state.

Yahaya thanked the State Health Revitalisation Taskforce saddled with the responsibility of reforming the health sector for a good performance.

He said despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic, the tasforce was able to deliver on its mandate of ensuring that the people enjoyed better facilities in health centres.

The governor said that reconstruction and renovation work would be extended to all the general hospitals in the state.

Yahaya also inaugurated 24 housing units for doctors on housemanship as well as the well equipped primaryh health care centre in Jekadafari quarters.

The governor further inaugurated the township road in Ferfero area of Gombe metropolis.

Yahaya was also in Kwami town of Kwami Local Government Area where he inaugurated a teachers’ training institute with an administrative block and a lodge for facilitators and teachers, among other facilities.

Speaking earlier, Prof Usman El-safety, the Chairman of the state health revitalization taskforce, thanked the governor for giving the body the resources and free hand to discharge its duties.

According to him, the new A&E units and the renovated structures in the hospital, have upgraded the hospital to the status of the specialist hospital.

Meanwhile, Dr Habu Dahiru, the Commissioner for Education, said the teachers’ institute would help in training new teachers as well as retraining of others in the state. (NAN)
