SEBASTIAN Okeke, a reverend father and vicar St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ekwulobia has claimed that disabilities do not exist in men.

Okeke said this during a Wedding Mass between Sunday Onyenekwe, a physically challenged (a blind) and Lilian Onyenekwe at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Aguluezechukwu, on April 27.

According to Okeke, man is a special creature with complex brain, made to control other animals.

“When a part of the body cannot carry out its function, the complex brain helps to develop ideas on how functional part can help to carry out functions of a deficient part.

“Nobody is disabled, but sometimes God allows certain conditions to prove his wholesomeness.’’

The cleric noted that the people referred to as disabled were special people made to prove the strength of God.

“Mr Onyenekwe is visually impaired, yet he took the first reading and responsorial Psalm. Is this not a challenge to all of us seated here?

“If he is worshipping God in that condition, do I have any reason not to worship God?’’ Okeke asked.

He insisted: “nobody is disabled, as there is ability in disability, urging the new couple and the older ones alike, to be committed to making marriages to be successful.”

Okeke emphasised that there was no smooth marriage anywhere, but with commitment, consistent prayers, submission to one another and fear of God, marriages would succeed.

The cleric urged other physically challenged yet to get married, to summon the courage to propose to ladies of their choices for marriages.

He commended Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra for giving persons with disabilities in the state a `voice’ with appointment of Chuks Ezewuzie as the senior special assistant, SSA, on Disability Matters.

“I wish he does more of offering opportunities to persons living with deformities that standout in their endeavours,’’ he said.

Okeke, then, prayed God to “renew the wine of marriages and rekindle love to all couples within reach of my voice.’’

Some special rendition by the church choir added glamour to the wedding ceremonies.
