THE Kano State Police Command has advised Rabiu Kwankwaso, a senator and former governor of the state, to suspend his planned visit to Kano on Tuesday, January 30.

Rabiu Yusuf, the state commissioner of Police, who gave the advice Friday, January 26, morning said that failure to yield to the security advice might attract sanctions.

Yusuf, who addressed journalists at the Bompai Police headquarters, disclosed that the intelligence the command gathered indicated that the January 30 visit was already generating tension and that it could be hijacked by miscreants.

“There is no doubt, the senator as a citizen of this country has the constitutional right of association, assembly, and above all, movement.

“However, credible information at the disposal of the command reveals that the proposed visit has generated palpable fears in the minds of the people of Kano State.

“Therefore, any action or inaction by any person or group of persons that may jeopardise the relative peace the state is currently enjoying must be averted,” the Police boss said.

The police chief, therefore, advised Kwankwaso to consider postponing his planned political rally until the tension dies down.
