The Akwa Ibom Youth League has warned the senators representing the state at the National Assembly not to take steps that will undermine the peaceful atmosphere created by Governor Udom Emmanuel in the state.

The youths said before Emmanuel took over the mantle of leadership, Akwa Ibom State was plagued with insecurity, which scared investors away.

The youths called on the senators representing the state to ensure that they strengthened the peaceful atmosphere created by the governor.

A statement on Thursday quoted the AYL as reacting to Tuesday’s shouting match in the Senate during a motion presented by Senator Albert Akpan on the alleged plot by some politicians to foist mayhem on Akwa Ibom State ahead of next year’s general election.

The youths said, “For three years, Governor Udom Emmanuel projected a template of peace that has made Akwa Ibom one of the top destinations for foreign direct investments, as seen by the increasing number of industries in the state.

“This was notably absent in the past when insecurity drove investors away from the state.

“In fact, as one of the leading APC chieftains, Senator John Akpan Udoedehe,  said during a radio programme, not too long ago, the peaceful atmosphere in the state was far better than what was obtainable three years ago. – Punch
