CHIEF Ogbonna Nwifuru, Speaker of Ebonyi House of Assembly (EBHA), on Friday distributed 700 bags of fertiliser to farmers in Izzi West constituency of Ebonyi.

Nwifuru made the distribution at Agbaja community during his 2018 mid-term score card briefing, directing that each of the seven wards in the constituency should receive 100 bags of the product and N200, 000.

The speaker said that making the product available to farmers was difficult in 2017, which necessitated the steps taken to avert such in 2018.

“I am aware of what we passed through in 2017 as the inability to distribute the product on time nearly caused crisis in the various wards.

“We might be distributing the product late presently but all ward chairmen and councilors should ensure it is distributed within one week to farmers.

“I am also donating N200, 000 each to the wards, which should be distributed alongside the fertiliser without delay.

“I do not want the money to be kept in individuals’ houses and no further meetings should be done concerning the distributions,” he said.

Nwifuru also declared that within the period under review, he distributed high yield species of rice seedlings to farmers in the constituency and the entire Izzi Local Government Area (LGA).

“I also facilitated the mobilisation of cooperatives by FADAMA III projects for rice, cassava, maize and poultry production among others.

“In the area of security, I participated actively in resolving internal conflicts in some communities within and outside the constituency and the LGA.

“I also constructed an office complex for the Nigeria Police Force at Nwofe police station among other security measures to ensure my constituents’ and LGA’s safety,” he said.

The speaker, who also listed his achievements in the areas of education, health and empowerment among others, noted that the assembly under his watch ensure passage of several people-oriented bills.

“The bills include a bill for a law to repeal the Ebonyi agricultural development corporation and related matters law, a bill for a law to amend the Ebonyi LGAs and development centres law, among others.

He called on the people to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and ensure that credible leaders were elected in the 2019 general elections.

“I urge you to vote massively for Gov. David Umahi and other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the elections as we all have delivered on our electoral promises,” he said.

Chief Obasi Odefa, Deputy Speaker of the House, urged the people to ensure that Nwifuru returns to the assembly in 2019 to continue delivering democratic dividends to them.

“Nwifuru has been a trusted ally since the struggle to enthrone the present government in the state and his return to the assembly would mean the continuation of the speakership which you enjoy,” he said.

Chief Boniface Ofoke, Former Auditor General of the state and the Chairman of the occasion, commended Nwifuru for remembering that people voted him into the office he presently occupies.

Mrs Jane Nwalor, a farmer, thanked Nwifuru for the donation but called for the sustenance of such gestures to erase the notion that such distributions were because of approaching elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was witnessed by several members of the assembly and the party’s stakeholders from the area and across the LGAs. (NAN)
