GOVERNOR Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State on Monday, September 28, stopped the October salaries of several top government functionaries for lateness.

Those affected included the newly appointed 13 local government caretaker committee chairmen, the 64 development centre coordinators, the deputy chief of staff office to Fidelix Okpata, deputy governor, and Clement Nweke, principal secretary to the governor.

Others in the list are Moses Ogodo Ali, commissioner for environment, Sabinus Nwankwegu, commissioner for economic empowerment and poverty alleviation and Charles Akpuenika, his Youth and Sports counterpart.

The rest are Uchenna Orji, commissioners for agriculture and Samuel Okoronkwo, his local government and chieftaincy matters counterpart.

Umahi also suspended the salaries of some personal assistants, senior special assistants, special advisers and other government functionaries.

The punishment was for their lateness to the school debate on government anti-corruption crusade and its internally generated revenue drive held at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Centre Abakaliki, state capital.

The governor added that those affected would also forfeit their September overhead.
