Education, health infrastructure to receive major attention in Obiano second tenure

TONY Nnachetta, the Anambra State commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, says health, education and infrastructure will receive major attention in Governor Willie Obiano’s second tenure.

The governor will be sworn in for his second tenure on March 17.

Nnachetta said this while briefing journalists at the ministry’s Headquarters on February 21.

The commissioner announced that at least 63 health centres would soon be inaugurated to improve on health delivery in the state.

He added that 63 new public health centres were currently under construction, and as soon as the constructions were completed, they would be equipped and staffed.

The commissioner said that not less than 300 junior staff would be recruited to man the centres.

“Many will be deployed with unique `tricycle ambulances’ to certain centres around the state.’’

He said that the state had received accreditation of the National Board of Technical Education, NABTEB,  across 11 technical colleges to offer 11 trade courses.

Nnachetta, noted that securing the accreditation was a `landslide achievement’, the first in history of the state, pointing out that it would amount to 28 trade courses, of which 16 had been fully accredited.

The commissioner maintained that the state had in addition to accreditation of technical colleges, renovated and installed new science laboratories in 60 secondary schools in the state.

“In addition, the state government has approved the fencing of all technical colleges in Anambra State.

“The government has in addition, installed new biology, physics and chemistry suites in 60 secondary schools in the state,’’ Nnachetta said.

He also added that there would be revalidation of profiles of contractors and consultants working in all sectors of the state.

This, according to him, is for sustainable assurances of quality performance, timely reports and financial controls.

He said that government was committed to asphalting at least 40 road projects totalling, 112 kilometres before the coming of the rainy season, and that government had resolved to reconstruct 30 roads in each senatorial zones.

The commissioner also re-echoed readiness of Obiano administration to further consolidate on his achievements across every sector of the economy.
