GODSWILL Akpabio, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and incumbent Senate minority leader, was on Friday, October 16, quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Akpabio, was accompanied to the EFCC national headquarters at about 5 PM by a few aides and Ricky Tarfa, SAN, his counsel.

Akpabio was said to have been quizzed in connection with an allegation of fraud of about N108.1 billion belonging to Akwa Ibom State.

Wilson Uwujaren, spokesperson for the EFCC, could not be reached at the time of this report, but sources close to the anti-graft agency confirmed that Akpabio was already being interrogated.

The action followed a petition forwarded to the commission by Leo Ekpenyong, a lawyer and activist, based in Abuja.

Ekpenyong had on June 8, petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari and the EFCC, calling for Akpabio’s probe and accusing him of looting Akwa Ibom State treasury.
