AHEAD of the forthcoming general elections, the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in the state, Alhaji Isa Ashiru and other governorship candidates in the state signed a peace accord on Tuesday.

This was to ensure a conduct of free, fair and credible elections as well as a peaceful transition of political powers in the state.

All the governorship candidates signed the peace accord at the Police Headquarters along Bida Road in the state capital.

The State Police Commissioner, Ahmad Abdulrahman, in his remarks, said the Force would be fair and firm to all political parties in the state before, during and after the elections.

He called on all political parties and other relevant stakeholders to partner the police to ensure violence-free polls in the state.

According to him, a violence-free election is a fundamental means to a sustainable peace and development.

The police chief said, “Peace Accord signifies our respective commitment to peace and symbolises respect for the rule of law.

“I want to suggest that candidates and supporters must accept the outcome as announced by the constituted authorities, rather than make trouble because the results are not in one’s favour.

“Let us prepare our minds to accept the results for the sake of our dear nation. While those who will emerge as winners, must not allow themselves and their supporters when jubilating to tease and provoke the other sides.”

Speaking with journalists shortly after the signing of the peace accord, the PDP governorship candidate called on INEC to provide a level playing ground to all the political parties during the elections. – Punch
