LABARI Tella (PDP-Jema’a), a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, has tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the need to be transparent in its conduct of the forthcoming general elections.

Tella, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kafanchan that the electoral umpire should live up to its expectation and not betray the confidence reposed in it by Nigerians.

“INEC has the onus to either make or mar the entire process, as such it must prove to Nigerians a high level of transparency and equity in the discharge of its responsibility,” he said.

He urged officials of the commission, particularly its field workers, to tolerate likely excessive behaviours by voters and not to react in ways that could lead to breakdown of law and order.

“I wish to plead with INEC staffers who would be stationed at the various polling units to be civil enough with the electorate and cooperate with security agencies to avoid any form of rancour,” he said.

The Lawmaker, however, admonished Nigerians and his constituent in particular on the need to exhibit maturity and conduct themselves orderly during and after the elections.

He said the people should vote wisely for candidates of their choice and not to give in to material aggrandizement by sacrificing their future on the altar of greed.

Tella called on the various candidates to approach the polls with the spirit of sportsmanship and accept the results in good faith, adding that those aggrieved should seek redress through judicial process. (NAN)
