THE Edo Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it will deploy no fewer than 3, 500 personnel for the general elections.

The State Commandant of the corps, Mr Makinde Ayinla, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Benin while briefing news men on the command’s preparedness for the general elections.

Ayinla said that those to be deployed included armed and unarmed personnel, counter- terrorist personnel as well as  chemical and radiological nuclear explosive personnel.

He also said that sniffer dogs and those for crowd control would be deployed.

Ayinla further disclosed that the personnel of the command had undergone training programmes ahead of the elections.

The commandant, however, appealed to stakeholders and all actors in the electoral process to adhere to the advice of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II,  and play by the rules.

Ayinla also advised stakeholders to sustain the agreement reached at the peace accord meeting organised by the police

The NSCDC boss, who gave an assurance that the personnel of the command would be neutral during the elections, called on residents to promote peace during and after the elections.

He also urged the electorate to shun vote buying and stay 300 metres away from the polling booths after casting their votes. (NAN)
